Almost no one explains what the test behind that number is, or what the figure actually tells you. So the badge gets copied around, and a burned buyer has no way to tell a documented number from a decorative one.

What HPLC actually is
HPLC stands for high performance liquid chromatography. It is a standard laboratory method for separating the parts of a mixture so each one can be measured.
The sample is pushed through a column, and different molecules move through at different speeds. What comes out the other end is a chromatogram, a graph of peaks. Each peak is a component of the sample. The size of a peak reflects how much of that component is present. For a peptide, you want one dominant peak that is your target compound and very little else.
What a figure like "99% HPLC" means
When a Certificate of Analysis reports 99% by HPLC, it is saying the target peak accounts for about ninety nine percent of everything detected in the sample. The rest is other material, the minor impurities left over from synthesis.
Higher is better, and small differences are real. A number tied to your specific lot is the whole point. Two confirmed examples from our own testing make it concrete. Why a lot-specific number beats a vague claim

The gap between the two is the whole game. A vendor that only offers adjectives is asking you to trust the homepage. A vendor that shows a per lot HPLC figure, with the chromatogram behind it, is handing you evidence. When you compare two sellers, the one whose purity is documented per batch is the one giving you something you can check.
What HPLC does not tell you
One honest limit. HPLC measures how pure the sample is. It does not, on its own, confirm the sample is the right compound. A batch can read as very pure and still be the wrong molecule.
