Description
HMG (human menopausal gonadotropin) is a preparation with equal activity of follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH), purified from the urine of postmenopausal women. It's a long-established gonadotropin reference material in reproductive research.
Mechanism
It supplies FSH and LH activity together. FSH drives follicular development and spermatogenesis; LH supports ovulation and Leydig-cell testosterone production. In IVF research, combined FSH/LH activity was associated with fertilization rates comparable or favorable to pure FSH (Westergaard et al., 1996; Gordon & Sauer, 1995).
Research Applications
- Reproductive and assisted-reproduction research (Westergaard et al., 1996)
- HPG-axis studies
- Spermatogenesis and folliculogenesis
- Gonadotropin pharmacology (Gordon & Sauer, 1995)
Product Specifications
- Composition: FSH and LH (1:1 ratio)
- Activity: 75 IU FSH + 75 IU LH per vial
- Form: Lyophilized powder

Verification
Storage & Handling
Storage
HMG is supplied as a lyophilized powder. Keep it sealed, dry, and away from light until reconstitution.
Reconstitution
Let the vial reach room temperature before opening, then add solvent slowly down the vial wall — do not shake.
Stability
Lyophilized material is stable when frozen. Once reconstituted, keep it cold and minimise handling to preserve integrity.
Research Overview
HMG is a synthetic peptide compound used in laboratory research settings. Researchers studying peptide biology use this compound to investigate cellular signaling pathways, receptor binding affinities, and structure-activity relationships. Each batch is manufactured under controlled conditions and verified through HPLC and mass spectrometry analysis to ensure consistency across experimental replicates.

Frequently Asked Questions
What purity is HMG?
Each lot of HMG is verified to ≥99% by HPLC and confirmed by mass spectrometry. Results are documented in a batch-specific Certificate of Analysis.
Does HMG include a Certificate of Analysis?
Yes. A batch-specific Certificate of Analysis for HMG documents its purity and identity and is available on our COA page.
How should HMG be stored?
HMG is supplied as a lyophilized powder. For short-term storage keep it refrigerated; for long-term storage keep it frozen, away from light and moisture.
How is HMG shipped?
Orders ship at a $15 flat rate, free on orders over $199, in discreet, insulated packaging. Domestic delivery typically takes 1–3 business days.
Can HMG be used on humans or animals?
No. HMG is supplied strictly for in-vitro laboratory research. It is not for human or veterinary use, consumption, or diagnostic or clinical applications.
