IGF-1 DES
PH-IGFDES-001
Specifications
Description
IGF-1 DES (Des(1-3)IGF-1) is a truncated form of insulin-like growth factor 1 lacking the first three N-terminal amino acids (Gly-Pro-Glu). This modification eliminates binding to IGF binding proteins, enhancing bioactivity.
Mechanism of Action
Des(1-3)IGF-1 demonstrates approximately 10-fold greater potency than standard IGF-I in stimulating cellular growth due to reduced sequestration by IGF binding proteins (Ballard et al., 1996). The truncation maintains receptor binding while increasing free hormone availability, making it significantly more potent in promoting proliferation (Francis et al., 1992).
Research Applications
- Enhanced IGF-1 activity studies (Ballard et al., 1996)
- IGFBP-independent signaling (Francis et al., 1992)
- Cell proliferation research
- Tissue regeneration
- Localized growth factor effects
